Not much happening....

A busy work week and a birthday weekend (not mine) have resulted in not much sewing happening last week.

I did get a few bits done on a pillow I am making early last week but its still a work in progress!

I decided that tonight was the night to get my dresden circle sewn! So I set to it after work tonight and so far I am quite pleased with the results. I can guarantee that the seams will not all be an accurate 1/4" seam however its in the shape of a circle so thats a good start!

See I set myself such high standards... making sure a circle is a reasonable circle shape and everything ;)

Lynne has just posted the instructions for piecing the middle... think I will have to hunt out a compass to redraw my inner circle first though as my inner circle measured 6" I think rather than the 7" on Lynne's.

I am enjoying seeing everyone elses amazing circles popping up in the flickr group though!

So heres hoping that more sewing gets completed this week! :)

FNSI Complete :-)

Well last night I got a couple of things done. After work I got started on chopping up fabrics for Lily's Quilts QAL. Which turned into this...



I quite like the colours now that its all chopped up. I stuck to just cutting the leaves, and will be following Lynne's usful tip of measuring the circles once sewn together before cutting any more!

There is lots of pretty circles turning up in the flickr group.

After that I curled up on my bed flicked Pride and Prejudice on (the Jennifer Ehle & Colin Firth series not Keira Knightley version!) and started binding another quilt. And yes I do know Pride & Prejudice off by heart lol!

I am super slow at hand stitching so its not finished yet despite its small size! It was a lovely end to a hectic week. Hand sewing binding is my favourite part of quilting :)

QAL & FNSI

I have decided to jump in and join this QAL!

I think it was the lunacy on flickr that totally convinced me! I'm looking forward to joining the crazyness! Lynne's block for the QAL looks fantastic! I've never sewn curves or circles before so if I manage to make this block successfully I will be very impressed lol :-)

These are the fabrics I've chosen.

I wasn't totally convinced about these fabrics, newbie to sewing and quilting that I am I tend to always play it safe and go for one fabric collection. However I was determined to use something I already had so this is what I went with. Green is one of my least favourite colours, but I am learning that once its made into something I usually really like it! Lots of people commented on flickr that the combination above works so I'm feeling much happier about the fabric I've chosen and that I'm not just creating something where the fabrics will look terrible together!

At the moment I think I'm just going to go for the one block option on the QAL and see where that takes me. Tonight I printed and cut the templates and later I will read through the cutting instructions that have just been posted on Lynne's blog.


I have also decided to sign up for tomorrows FNSI! I figure I have plenty to be getting on with and it will be a good start to the weekend.

First finish of 2011

Despite the fact that I completed most of this quilt in 2010 it is still my first finish of this year!

Had some sunshine last weekend so managed to snap some shots.

I'm so pleased I have managed to finish this one and tick it off my list!

All wrapped up and ready to go to my sister and her family.

Yes I had a little bit of pink overload lol =D

One of those productive days..

I have managed to get a lot of quilty bits done today. I started by clearing up because I couldn't get into my sewing space never mind find anything! So now its clear, I might even be able to find things ;)



After finding my table I made some bias binding using Julie's tutorials.



I'd never been brave enough to try bias binding before it just looked too complicated. However Julie's first method looked manageable so a couple of weeks ago I used that and this time I decided to be brave and try the continuous bias binding method. I can't decide whether it was worse trying to join the bias strips together in method one, or if trying to cut in straight lines with scissors in continuous method was more of a pain! Both seemed to have worked though so big thanks to Julie for sharing :)

I'm very tempted to try this QAL with Lynne from Lily's Quilts.

Looks like fun but I just don't know that I can commit to it at the moment! I'm umming and ahhing lol!

I've been wanting to make Rachel's pinwheel sampler quilt since forever! I've had the fabrics in my cupboard for ages, it just looks like such a cheerful quilt =D
So I pulled the fabric out today... I figured why not while I can see my table!





All ready for chopping up with some solid, however I decided to sleep before trying to slice through my fingers, cutting can happen tomorrow!

Oh, and throughout the day Grey's Anatomy has been my companion!
