Summer Roundup

I'm not convinced that summer ever started here in the UK but end of August is approaching so my version of the official end of summer is nearly here! To be honest this has been an amazingly unproductive summer for me. However I have enjoyed learning some new embroidery skills.

This embroidery sampler has been one of my main achievements progress wise. Embroidery is a brand sparkling new skill to me (aside from making it up as I go along labels!) I actually understand how to do a proper backstitch now! This sampler is available as a free download at We Love French Knots and BariJ has some great video embroidery tutorials on there!

I have also made little bits of progress with my 2nd set of Pinwheels for my Pinwheel sampler quilt. HSTs sewn up and trimmed.
Trimmed HSTs!

And 2 blocks sewn up...
x2 more pinwheels

Thats is for progress on projects!

I did also attend the FoQ at Birmingham a couple of weeks ago. Had an amazing time! Only downside being that I was completely shattered at the end of the day and that I didn't have long enough! I went for the first time last year and spent most of the day shopping through the stalls and practically zero time looking at the exhibition! (Which I know is really, really bad!) This year my mum insisted that we had to make more time to look at the quilts. Which I was more than happy to do, and there were some amazing, incredible, marvellous quilts on show! Downside being that I did not have enough time to look around the stalls and shop... don't get me wrong I managed to purchase things but I basically scooted up and down an entire end of stalls barely stopping because I ran out of time and we had to jump back on a train. Plus I still missed half the quilts! Perhaps I am just slow lol!

Anyways onto the purchases :)
I was pretty restrained!

Some bits and bobs I wanted. I want to try paper piecing so thought the ruler would be useful.
Essential tools :)

I have to say the eternalmaker new website is much better. And the stall was full of gorgeous stuff.. I could have spent a fortune! I got some Heather Ross fabrics that I've loved for ages. I am not as keen on the new collection (I guess I just love the princess theme!) but the blue fabric here is FFA 3 and very cute.
Heather Ross far far away 2/3

Couldn't resist this sunkissed fabric!

I resisted the biggest fat 1/8th pack of Oakshott cottons but caved and bought this sunrise (Ithink!) pack.

And lastly some yummy liberty fabric. I hope (crosses fingers) to be clever enough to make myself a Longsdale Dress following my Sewaholic pattern and Tasia's Sewalong!
Liberty yumminess! :)

That's it.

So plan for next year....
  • get more sleep the night before...
  • learn to run and dodge in and out of crowds quicker?!
  • don't stop for lunch?!
Who knows. I could stay over and do two days... but as my mum pointed out that is valuable fabric buying money being wasted =D
